30 Easy Digital Marketing Tips For Small Business Owners To Win More Customers

30 Easy Digital Marketing Tips For Small Business Owners To Win More Customers

You've followed your passion, and started a business. That alone is an achievement well worth celebrating: it's hard work, pouring your life and soul into a business endeavour. I see you.

But owning a business is not all fun and games. Leaving the rat race and the sinking feeling every Monday morning that goes with it means also leaving the guaranteed salary behind.

Chances are, you're great at what you do. Whether that's selling products on Etsy, or wholesale to to other businesses; home improvement services or personal growth courses; or anything - and everything - in between.

The only snag is that you're now responsible for everything that goes with it. The accounting, the ordering, the supplier management. Not to mention the ways by which your potential customers will find you: that's right, sales and marketing.

Marketing businesses or organisations of any size is a constantly evolving science. So when you have to put on your marketing hat and make sense of how to get more customers, it might feel like this particular hat is bringing you out in a cold sweat!

Just this morning, my self-employed partner had an admin morning. Here are the marketing questions I was asked in just one hour:

  • How do I set up a Google Ads campaign? It used to be so much easier.

  • What's the difference between a Performance Max campaign and Search?

  • What are site links?

  • It's asking me to upload images to my Ads campaign. Should I do that?

  • What should my goal be with my Google Ads?

  • How do conversions work?

  • Do you think £1.50 a day for my campaign budget is ok?

  • How do I collect email addresses on my website?

  • How do I send them emails after that?

  • Why does the meta description on my homepage say one thing, but on Google it says something else?

  • I just updated my website, why isn't it showing on Google?

  • Which sounds better, 'training masterclasses' or 'training and masterclasses'?

  • How do I put this one bit of content on loads of different pages without having to build it from scratch every time?

  • Does my Canva design look ok? (answer: yes, but it needs proper margins and bleed to print properly)

Reader, this person is pretty good at marketing (for a non-marketer), yet they still had lots of very valid questions. All in just one hour.

So I can imagine what it must be like, trying to figure everything out for yourself, from search engine optimisation and website content editing, to paid search and email marketing. It's literally a full time job for most professional marketers.

So how do you fit it all into your already busy schedule?
